Norton Youth Soccer will be holding tryouts for its competitive travel teams on September 26th and 27th,
as well as October 3rd and 4th. All children who wish to tryout must attend as least one tryout for their age
group. Attending both is highly recommended.
Generally, NYS fields both a boy and a girl team at each age group from U8 to U14. In many cases, NYS is
able to field both an “A” and a “B”. Upon the completion of an age groups’ tryouts the NYS Board will
meet to determine the viability of a B team based on the number of total attendees for that age group.
Roster size and the ability to field a “B” team is at the sole discretion of the NYS Board. Even so, every
effort is made to be as inclusive a possible within a competitive environment.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in and be sure to wear cleats and shin guards (no jewelry
of any kind). In order to make the selection process as fair a possible no Norton United uniforms (shirts,
shorts or socks) should be worn to tryouts. Please also have water, sun screen and bug spray (as
necessary). These tryouts are used to determine player placement based on their skill level. It is our
goal to place children in a competitive environment that matches their skills to ensure a positive
experience. Tryouts can last from 1 to 2 hours depending on the coach. Once the tryouts have been
completed teams will be posted on the NYS web site as soon as possible.
The season is generally comprised of three parts:
? Two indoor sessions (the specific game dates and locations depend on the facility selected by
the team’s coach)
? One outdoor session in the South Coast Soccer League (approximately 8 games plus playoffs)
o November through January (approximately 10 games plus playoffs)
o January through April (approximately 10 games plus playoffs)
o April through June
o This is the most important part of our season because teams that win their age group’s
playoffs qualify for the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (for U11 age groups
o Half of these games will be played at the Norton Middle School and half will be played
on fields throughout Southeastern MA and the Cape and Islands.
? Most teams also hold at least weekly practices at a nearby indoor facility throughout the winter
The cost to participate varies slightly depending on the team and will be outlined by each coach once
the teams have been selected, but the coaches should be able to provide a rough idea of anticipated
costs. New players should order uniforms as soon as they have been notified of their selection via the
instructions from the coach and as available on the NYS website.
